Chocolate Whipped Cream Frosting

PIES AND TACOS

This Chocolate Whipped Cream Frosting is a rich and velvety treat.

Start by beating the cream cheese or mascarpone cheese in a large bowl with a hand mixer until fluffy, about 45 seconds. Set it aside.

In another bowl, combine heavy cream, unsweetened cocoa powder, and powdered sugar, and beat with a hand mixer until stiff peaks form.

Add the whipped cream cheese (or mascarpone) and vanilla extract to the whipped cream mixture. Mix on low speed until everything is well combined. Scrape the bowl and mix briefly to ensure the frosting is smooth and creamy.

You can use either cream cheese or mascarpone in this recipe. Mascarpone will yield a slightly tangier and richer flavor.

Add a touch of espresso powder for a mocha twist or a teaspoon vanilla extract for extra depth. Or perhaps even a drop of peppermint extract for a mint chocolate whipped cream frosting.

If you like it extra chocolaty, melt some chocolate and fold it into the frosting for a richer taste. It will be more like a chocolate ganache this way, so making sure your adjusting for consistency.

It is the perfect topping for cakes, cupcakes, or pies.
