Melt the butter and chopped chocolate (or chocolate chips) together in a bowl. You can use the microwave or a double boiler.
Add the egg and vanilla, and whisk until smooth. Add the flour, cocoa powder, and salt to the bowl. It’s best if you pre-sift the dry ingredients before adding them.
Cream the butter with a mixer for 2 minutes on medium high speed. Add brown sugar and white sugar.
