Hello friends! Today we are making Nutella Brownies. These rich brownies are stuffed with Nutella, they are super easy to make, and absolutely delicious!

Also, make sure to watch the video where I am making these brownies on YouTube, or on this page down below.

These Nutella Brownies were one of the first recipes I posted on the blog, and when I first made it, I put cashews in the batter.

The cashews were perfect, they are salty and go super well with the rich and sweet brownies. However, lots of readers asked me if they could make these Nutella Brownies without the nuts, so I figured I’d update the recipe to leave the nuts out, and give the option of adding them if desired.

Also, I’ve made these Nutella Brownies in a skillet. It was literally the most perfect way to eat them. Before the brownies had cooled down all the way, we topped with ice cream and ate it out of the skillet! It was the best!

But, of course, if you are bringing these brownies to a potluck, to share with friends, or to gift to someone, I recommend baking in a pan, and slicing them the old way.

Also, feel free to place some Nutella in a piping bag, and snip the end of the piping bag with scissors and drizzle the Nutella on top of the brownies. Might get a bit messy, but it’s worth it.

Tips for making these Nutella Brownies

  • Use whatever kind of chocolate you’d like: milk, semi-sweet, or dark. I’ve used dark chocolate.
  • Bake just until the top of the brownies seems set, and somewhat firm to the touch. Over baked brownies are tough and dry.
  • Add whatever kind of nuts you enjoy, such as cashews, peanuts, hazelnuts. Chopped nuts work better. Add up to 1/2 cup.
  • Feel free to add white chocolate chips, or peanut butter chips to the batter at the end, along with the chocolate chips. Add up to 1 cup of chips.
  • You can skip the Nutella. Yes, this is a recipe for Nutella Brownies, however, the Nutella is only in the filling, and the brownie recipe is super fudgy and delicious, so it’s easy to customize, and if you fall in love with this recipe and want to leave the Nutella out sometime, feel free to do so and bake just the brownies.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (113 grams, 4 oz)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate (170 grams, 6 oz)
  • 1/2 cup sugar (100 grams, 3.5 oz)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (50 grams , 1.75 oz)
  • 3 eggs room temperature
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour (85 grams, 3 oz)
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate (170 grams, 6 oz)
  • 1 cup Nutella 226 grams or 8 oz.

Instructions

  • Pre-heat the oven to 350ºF.
  • Grease a 8×8” or 9×9” pan with butter. Line the pan with parchment paper and lightly butter the parchment, or spray with oil. You can also use a 9" oven-proof skillet. If using the baking skillet, such as a cast iron or porcelain skillet, you can simply spray it with oil, or grease it with butter.
  • Melt the butter and 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate in a large bowl. I like to use a large glass bowl that I stick in the microwave for 30 second intervals and stir until everything is melted together.
  • Add the sugars to melted butter and chocolate and whisk until incorporated.
  • Add the eggs one at a time and whisk until incorporated before adding the next egg.
  • Add the vanilla extract and whisk.
  • Sift the flour, cocoa powder and salt together. Add to the batter and whisk until incorporated.
  • Add the chocolate chips and stir with a spatula until combined.
  • Add half of the batter to the prepared pan or skillet. Spread 1 cup of Nutella over batter. You can scatter spoonfuls of Nutella over the batter, and then use a spatula to gently spread the Nutella around.
  • Then pour the rest of the batter over the Nutella.
  • Bake in the pre-heated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until the brownie looks set on top, in the middle, and around the edges.
  • Let it cool, cut into pieces and serve.

Notes

Nuts: You can add nuts to this recipe as well. I’ve added cashews in the past, and the salty cashews go so well with the sweet Nutella and rich chocolate. Add up to 1/2 cup of chopped nuts.
Skillet: Make the recipe just the same and add it to a skillet instead of a baking pan. I’ve made it on my cast iron skillet, and served with ice cream right out of the pan before the brownie had cooled down all the way.
Chocolate: Feel free to use whatever chocolate you prefer, semi-sweet, milk, or dark.
Chocolate Chips: You can also add white chocolate chips, or peanut butter chips if desired.

I don’t know what I did wrong but mine were just a gooey moosh. They had no structure at all, they just collapsed when I cut them, like a mooshy chocolate pudding. Not sure i maybe didn’t cook them enough but I had them in the oven for 30 minutes.
